It’s March! And while that means that we’re almost done with winter, ice, and snow, it’s not quite warm yet in much of the world. Lately, I’ve been catching myself spending more and more time staring out the window as I work. If you’re like me and so many others, you’re already dreaming of summer.

But warmth and sunshine aren’t out of reach. Maybe you’re ready to start planning for an adventurous Spring Break. Or maybe you’re looking to take a vacation from work and get away to the beach. We’re here to help!

All the beaches on this list feature warm sand, sunshine, and beautifully clear water. Some of these beaches are more well-known for their wildlife and snorkeling, while others are frequented for their seaside adventures and night life.

Whatever you’re looking for, this list of the top five U.S. beaches to visit in March will help you plan for your next getaway.

1. Kapalua Bay

Maui

This beach on Maui is known as a great place for kayaking and boarding. The calm waters offer ocean fun for visitors of any age. Relax on the golden sand ringed by palm trees or jump in for an ocean adventure.

The reefs in the bay are perfect for snorkeling, and the rocky outcroppings on either side of the bay protect this beach from rough winds.

The local restaurants have great happy hours and live music. The Ritz-Carlton offers a wide-ranging golf course and views of the ocean. There are also numerous private villas for rent around the area. Whatever you choose to do, the great sunsets, laid-back energy, and local restaurants of this area are sure to create a wonderful and peaceful experience.

2. Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach features seven miles of oceanside space filled with sea caves and natural tide pools scattered among the sandy beaches. Look around the tide pools to see undisturbed wildlife in its natural habitat. This is a marine protected area, so there are plenty of ocean animals about!

The calmer waters are perfect for taking advantage of the surf lessons offered at Laguna Beach. And the area surrounding this beach is known for its live music and al fresco dining experiences.

Laguna Beach also sits halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles, providing great access to many of the sights in California.

3. Cumberland Island

This lovely beach sits well away from residential areas. Wildlife and well-preserved landscape make this Georgia Beach feel remote and undisturbed. You’ll notice extensive sand dunes that play host to all kinds of animals, from wild turkeys to sea turtles.

But the most exciting animals you might spot on this beach are the wild horses that live on this island! The island is home to the only herd of wild horses on the Atlantic coast that is not managed. Watch this beautiful herd interact with their natural habitat.

4. Cannon Beach

Oregon

Although it’s still a little on the colder side in Oregon in the spring, this coastal areas often sees highs of 58º in March! This stunning location has been featured in lists of the top most beautiful places in the world. This site is most well-known for its view of Haystack Rock, one of Oregon’s most recognizable landmarks.

Starting in April, look closely at Haystack Rock for signs of nesting Tufted Puffins! One of the many oceanfront resorts and hotels will make sure you have direct access to the beach and a view of the iconic rock throughout your stay.

Surrounded by miles of hiking trails and several craft breweries, this beach has something for everyone. In the downtown area, you can watch glassblowing artists at work and tour sculpture gardens.

5. Clearwater Beach

Florida

In 2018, Clearwater Beach was named the best beach in the US. Take a drive over the bridge or enjoy a ferry ride to get to Clearwater Beach Island off of the town of Clearwater. Its Aquarium is well-loved, and its hotels and restaurants also won’t disappoint. The many pubs and grills and the local shops make walking around the downtown area fun for all.

Kayak with one of the many local kayak-guiding companies through spring-fed waters in the local wildlife preserves. These kayaking tours are known to provide visitors with days filled with playful dolphins and sightings of monkeys and tropical birds. The Florida Botanical Gardens offer another beautiful and warm getaway activity near the Clearwater Beach.
